The Darling Downs community has put their support behind the planned Darling Downs Health Regional Cancer Centre, with the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation announcing they’ve raised $366,598.91 in community donations since launching their campaign earlier this year.
Bolstered by the outpouring of support, the Foundation is hoping to reach their first $1 million milestone by 2025 with a number of fundraising events already planned and many local groups jumping on board with their own fundraisers.
Toowoomba Hospital Foundation CEO Alison Kennedy said the Foundation is thrilled to have started the campaign with such strong support.
“The Regional Cancer Centre is the biggest project and fundraising campaign we’ve ever run for Darling Downs Health and just demonstrates the genuine need for a dedicated facility for our cancer patients to come to for treatment,” she said.
“We have had so many great local businesses, pubs, clubs, community groups and individuals really get behind the campaign, which I think shows just how widespread the impacts of cancer are and the compassion our community has for those diagnosed.
“I know we’ve set a pretty ambitious goal to help build the Regional Cancer Centre, and I truly hope that you’ll continue on the journey with us over the next few years as we do all we can to support our region’s cancer patients.”
Regional Cancer Centre Ambassador Beck Johnson who has been championing the project is calling on our community to keep up their incredible efforts.
“It’s so incredibly wonderful the amount our community has helped raise so far in support of the Regional Cancer Centre,” she said.
“I’m so thankful for the support I’ve received personally from sharing my story, and I hope that we can continue to raise so much more for patients like myself receiving care with Darling Downs Health.”
